With the idea of home goods in mind, three-dimensional and functional works brought me to Liz Kelly, a potter living in Raleigh. Inspired by traditional craft and contemporary design, Liz’s influences are expressed in ceramic wares that are earthy and elegant. Working in this collaboration, Liz’s expertise in clay, glaze and kiln firing allowed me to add my motifs to factory produced bisque wares. Liz aided my vision, working in a cross-disciplinary approach, to effectively communicate pattern in pottery form.
By collaborating with designers, makers, craftspeople and personal clients, I am able to bring my vision to life.Nan Alexander, seamstress and owner of Pins & Needles Studio in Raleigh, assisted in fit, construction and placement of pattern for four garments— a tank top, a skirt, a jacket and a jumpsuit. Simple silhouettes allowed for the application of shape, line, and materiality to altered paper patterns, extending the idea of modularity in the sense that all pieces can be paired and combined in different ways.
